iPhone 12 Pro Honest Review

Hey, what's up my friends ? Today I have an iPhone 12 pro with me. I am using this device from past one week. It's seems like very similar to the last years iPhone just with an updated design and a couple of added features in it. It's actually the biggest generational leap since the iPhone 6s, which was such a solid phone that Apple struggled for years trying to get people to upgrade to a newer iPhone. So in this review, I'm going to explain why the iPhone 12 Pro is so good. Just like the iPhone 11 Pro from last year, the iPhone 12 Pro ended up being so much better than I expected. I started testing the device when I got it in my hands, there are so many improvements that Apple didn't mention during the event.

The iPhone 12 Pro design is different from last year’s iPhone 11 Pro. It has flat sides with sharp, 90-degree edges. The flatter edges of this 6.1-inch (thanks to bumping up the display to 6.1 inches) screened phone do make it easier to press the buttons on the sidesOne of the important thing is apple omitted charging block and Ear Pods from the box. Apple claims this will have a huge environmental impact and believes there's no need to include a charger because everyone already has one lying around. Now they able to make every iPhone box twice as small as before, saving massive amounts of cash, in terms of material, transportation, inventory, and shipping costs. Not only that but it forces people to buy wireless ear pods & a fast charger, which means even more potential profit for Apple. The device feels really comfort to hold on hand even it having 189 g weight and 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4 mm dimensions. The back side is made up of glass precisely gorilla glass and you can see an apple logo there. Still it having IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 6m for 30 mins) and Single SIM slot (Nano-SIM / eSIM).

Another new addition is the Ceramic Shield on the front, which replaces the glass from the iPhone 11 to a 'Nano-crystalline' structure that has four times the strength of last year's screen, so it should be harder to break your new iPhone. The iPhone 12 Pro display is Super Retina XDR OLED, HDR10 & it is one of the best out there. If you want enjoy high-quality photography from Instagram or just want to watch your home movies, this display will be a great choice. It still comes with 60 Hz display, I expect the pro comes with 120 Hz. It would have been nice to see 120Hz display technology debut on an iPhone with the Pro and Pro Max. This higher refresh rate makes scrolling around your phone look and feel much more fluid.
When you're spending this much money, you don't want it to feel like your previous phone. When I first got the iPhone 12 Pro in my hands, I was completely blown away, because it feels like a totally different phone. And I'm reminded of that every time I pick it up. Yes, that's due to the new flat sides which Apple execute perfectly. Edges are barely rounded into the flat sides. But at the same time, both the glass on the front and the glass on the back are perfectly flush with the stainless steel band, if you haven't held the iPhone 12 in your hands, you have to go find one because it feels so much better than you'd expect.
I absolutely loves the clean, smooth & thin bezels. Apple was able to make the bezels quite a bit more thin (~86.0% screen-to-body ratio). The display is oleophobic coated, True-tone 1170 x 2532 pixels. On top of all that Apple has improved the speakers being louder in sounding better than the ones on the iPhone 11 Pro, which were already a massive improvement compared to older iPhones. So this really helps it feel like you have a totally different phone.

We've got the new A14 bionic chip, which is the fastest iPhone chip ever and it come with 6GB of RAM to allow for maximum capability when doing things like the aforementioned video editing on the fly. This is more than enough power to get through pretty much any task, although it does feel like the iPhone 12 takes a small  while to process photos to get them fully sharp and looking great as part of the Deep Fusion optimization. Performance differences actually go directly towards efficiency and camera improvements.  The iPhone 12 Pro is the most powerful smartphone I've ever tested, thrashing the competition when it comes to raw power.

Lets talk about 5G and battery life. The battery is quite a bit smaller than it was in the last year. That's how Apple had to make the iPhone quite a bit thinner. The 2815 mah Li-Ion non-removable battery of 12 Pro now gets about one hour less of battery life, compared to the iPhone 11 Pro. I think it's because of the A14 killer graphics performance, which demands more power. But considering the fact that the display is now larger 6.1 inches compared to the previous 5.8, the battery life is not too bad. In terms of overall battery life, I noticed that with light use I could easily make it to midnight with more than half the battery remaining, and the phone can actually make it through 48 hours before desperately needing a charge.

Some people will find it the 5G to be brilliant, and others won't be able to use it fully. If you buy any of the new iPhone range you're getting 5G connectivity as standard, whether you want it or not. Apple giving you the next-gen connectivity tech into your phone, its is actually an excellent thing. If you're worried about battery life, turn off, 5g, and enjoy a very reliable LTE speeds that are now much faster. Apple introduced a solution named Smart Data Mode, it helps you save the battery. Smart data mode is basically turning on and off the 5G when you needed. If you are downloading something and you entered in a 5G location, it turn on the 5G itself and completes the download much faster.

I think one of the biggest deals for the iPhone 12 lineup is the new Magsafe. The new MagSafe works a little differently, ensuring a very firm hold when you snap on an accessory. Currently, these accessories are limited to cases, a charger and a wallet add-on. Apple basically created a new ecosystem of accessories that can more conveniently attach to the iPhone using magnets. Since this is the first week since the iPhone 12 has been released, and I honestly believe that after a full year the market is going to be flooded with Magsafe accessories.

The camera performance is super exciting. I was so impressed by how every photo look more sharp on the iPhone 12 Pro, especially the ultra wide camera which looks so much better than before. This is odd because it's literally the same exact camera sensor and lens from the 11 pros ultra wide camera. The big difference is in the new software improvements. Main camera module consists of 3 separate cameras of 12 mega pixel. There’s a regular 'wide' option, an ultra-wide sensor, and the telephoto 2x zoom for getting closer to your subjects, which also makes the iPhone 12 Pro's portrait mode more efficient.
On top of all that, the iPhone 12 Pro comes with a new LIDAR scanner, which is basically like an upscaled version of face ID that helps with 3d depth mapping and tracking, which makes it easier for the iPhone to work out what it's looking at. It's actually more useful for detecting people's faces in low light, enabling the camera to auto-focus speedily. LIDAR uses AI to optimize the various parts of the scene. The night mode is a game changer now. Selfies look amazing in the dark. The LIDAR scanner enables nighttime portrait photos, which we've never had before, because portrait shots require much more light.

But what you might not know is that the iPhone 12 Pro actually uses the LIDAR scanner for video recording in the dark as well. One of the big features that Apple is touting for the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max is the ability to record, edit and watch Dolby Vision content in 4K at 60 frames per second, such an enormous grunt of the iPhone 12 Pro. Night Mode has been extended to the front camera too, so you can capture better-looking selfies in darker conditions. You can also use portrait mode in the dark, with the Retina Flash (where the screen illuminates to brighten your face) slowly dimming to capture the moment. The other big change on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, cameras-wise, is the introduction of the ProRAW file format. Basically, it's similar to the raw format that many photographers use, which preserves all the image information captured by the sensor to give you greater flexibility when editing.

I think deep fusion on every single camera, including the selfie camera. It basically takes multiple photos in the blink of an eye, and then combines the data from multiple photos into one compressing file then into a tightly packed and incredibly sharp photo. That's why everything from ultra wide photos to zoom shots and even selfies looked so much more detailed than before. Even though the actual megapixels of the sensors haven't changed. I need to remind you that all of these major improvements are possible because of the massive performance improvement of the A14 bionic chip and software, since all of this happens in real time.
Unlike other android phones like the pixel five, which makes you wait for seconds to finish processing before you can see things like the background blur and the true dynamic range. Apple wants this type of processing to happen right away, and the 14th chip allows them to enable processor features like deep fusion and smart HDR.

Let me remind you that Apple kept the price of the iPhone 12 Pro at the exact same $999, while adding a bunch of expensive things like 5G modem from Qualcomm, definitely wasn't cheap. We now have six gigs of RAM instead of four, 128 gigs of base storage instead of 60 gigs, a brand new five nanometer A14 chip, a brand new light sensor from Sony, ceramic shield glass from Corning, a new LIDAR scanner for the first time ever on any iPhone and of course the new Magsafe.
We're basically getting a lot of extra features & hardware this year at the exact same price, while a lot of other Android phones are getting more expensive. In the case of the pixel five, which sacrifices flagship specs and features to save money instead Apple is giving us brand new tech and top of the line hardware for the same price as before. They're sacrificing the charger and earbuds to do it, which is actually okay with me because I already have a fast charger and I already have air pods, like many other people out there.
And finally, the new flat redesign makes it feel like you have a totally different phone, and that truly matters for upgradability. So if you choose to upgrade to an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro is going to feel modern for the next few years, since the rounded side redesign of the iPhone six lasted for five generations. So to be completely honest there has never been a better time to upgrade to a new way ball. Thank you so much for reading, i will catch you in the next.
